What started back in January of 1999 has now become a
reality. When several 4-H members from across the United States involved with their
own Technology Teams were trading ideas and collecting information, an idea was formed. That idea was to have a National 4-H Technology
Conference where youth from across the country could share information, gain knowledge, and be pumped to want start their own Technology
Teams back home. Welcome to the first ever National 4-H Technology Conference.
The previous paragraph was the first text in the handbook
for
the National
4-H Technology Conference. It portrays the idea of youth
getting together and sharing ideas. The idea of a 4-H technology conference was the discussion. Six college-age students as well as six
advisors worked together for over a year-and-a-half to make the first ever National 4-H Technology Conference a great success! My duties
as the Logistics Coordinator were to develop and maintain the registrations of the delegates, create and maintain forms of publicity on
e-mail, the conference website, and press releases. I also was in charge of handling the delegates packets of information.
Looking back on this conference has been a real motivation
booster. Having participated in several 4-H Conferences, there have been none
quite like this. Being a part of it from the very beginning as well as seeing the faces of delegates coming and going was truly inspiring
to know that what this group did was very great.
At the right is a picture of me during the face-to-face
meeting January 2000 at the University of Maryland. Sitting through two days a
meetings and planning events can be quite exhausting! As you can tell in the picture I am thinking--but who knows what I was thinking
about.
