The Little Apple Chapter of the National Residence Hall
Honorary has been a tremendous organization for me. It has allowed me to grow and blossom into a positive and
active leader.
After being inducted in the Spring of 2000,
I ran for and received the position of Chairman of the Awards and Banquets Committee. Logistics is one of my areas
of expertise and I thought that by being chairman of this committee, I could revamp it considerably to make the banquets
run more smoothly. In the past, people complained so much about the end-of-the-year Leadership Banquet being so long
that they didn't want to attend. However, when I came aboard, my main goal was to have everyone's speech prewritten out
so they wouldn't have to think on the spot and blab all night long. Having gone from a four hour banquet to a three hour
banquet is pretty good considerly almost everything was still included in the program.
Also, I enjoyed the opportunity to represent our chapter at the regional business meeting (MACURH) and national business
meeting (NACURH) my first year. This gave me the chance to meet people at other universities to collect and gather
program ideas and potential ways of improving our chapter.
One of the main goals for NRHH is Recognition, Recognition, Recognition. We do this by the chapter sponsored
Of-The-Month (OTM) process. OTM's are a way of students recognizing students. When I came aboard, the current process
was done on-line, but it was only e-mailed to the committee. My thought was, if we are wanting to recognize outstanding
residence hall leaders, how can they be recognizied if no one can read them? So, during the Christmas break my sophomore
year, I began creating our Online OTM Database. This proved to be very successful and was completed by
the time that school
started back up and has been running on one of my Linux servers since. Not only has our quantity of OTM submissions
increased, but the quality has increased dramatically as well.
At the Leadership Banquet, I was awarded the
NRHH Member of the Year Award. This award is special to me because
it was voted on by my peers and shows that I do does get noticed and I can make a positive difference in an
organization.
During my junior year with this organization, I again ran for and received the position of Awards and
Banquet Committee Chairman. I was elected as the Vice-President as well to handle recruitment for one
semester. Justin Mencl and I nominated our chapter for the MACURH Region Chapter of the Year.

I was also elected as Chairman of the Awards and Banquet committee and was able to coordinate a successful Leadership
Banquet for a second year in a row. Again, members of the chapter elected me as Member of the Year.
During my senior year, I was again elected as Vice-President of the organization due to my experience
in recruitment and some reorganization that the chapter wanted to happen. During Christmas break, I spent most of
my time recoding the NRHH OTM Database system in php and added lots of new features. Plans are underway for the
Database System to be used on the regional level. My second semester was spent with organizing the annual
Leadership Banquet with the theme of "A Night at the Movies, Showcasing: A Celebration of Leadership." Being my last year,
I knew that I would have to make the banquet the best one ever, and I think that my committee and I were able to do just that!
At the banquet, I was chosen as NRHH Member of the Year for a third year in a row, and was also award the Distinguished Server Award
for my dedication and committee to the Residence Halls at Kansas State University. It is the highest award that can be given
by the Association of Residence Halls.
